I thought I had made it. The season of the rash was drawing to a close. What causes it? The most likely culprit .. poison turnip?or is it poison parsnip?.. maybe even poison hemlock. The oil of these plants is like poison ivy and in case of the turnip/parsnip whatever it is activated by exposure to light. So how then did this stuff get on my back and shoulder? After discussions with locals, we learned that the plant is seeding now. Spores set adrift on the wind. I was bent over. Shirt hiked up at the side hanging loose with an open neck. The boys fell a tree. The whoosh as the main trunk dropped kicked the spores up into the air and the came to rest on my exposed skin. Once one of these reactions start i find they dont stop. My autoimmune system gets triggered and my whole body becomes a target. Prednisone to the rescue. And a lot of extra napping.
