There is a skip to my step... a glide to my gallop.

The first snow has fallen.

The seasons have changed.

The world is brighter.

AND.. I'm employed!

Its a relief. Just like for everyone else out there, the belt has been getting uncomfortably tight. The extra paycheck will make a huge difference. And its a position I am perfectly suited too! At least in terms of my understanding of what I will be doing and who I will be doing it for.

I've known for a while that I would be needing to re-enter the job market. With that knowledge I have spend a great deal of time and mental energy puzzling over what sort of job I should pursue. I poured over the local want ads to see what was even available and put out a few feelers through friends etc. None of those opportunities excited me much. So I turned to LinkedIn and let it make some suggestions based on my resume. The algorithms it uses were pretty spot on for me and I ended up sending out three resumes for remote positions that included: an admin assistant, a data entry clerk and a transcriptionist. Greg was initially a little disappointed that I was looking for remote jobs as they lack a degree of social interaction and (being a reclusive homebody and all) I don't get much of that. But the reality is there are days that I have trouble walking. There are days when my body sucks. Even so I CAN work from home. I also don't mind the lack of distraction. People are fascinating but noisy and they make me tired. Finally when I pointed out that a remote job would allow me the freedom to travel with Greg as his work required, he was sold.

The Admin position immediately replied and we began the interview process. It was a little odd. I know I have not interviewed for a position in ... calculates and clears throat.. 23 years but I am still taken aback by how much the process has changed. Firstly, I was contacted and asked to make an account on a video conferencing app. add the contact and send a message with my full name and the time of the interview. I did so and at the time of our meeting, learned that it would be via text messaging. I then engaged with a bot. At least I am pretty sure it was a bot. It duplicated a question, and I responded that "This appears to be the same question. But let me confirm: Yes, I can do that job." To this it responded "noted". Other responses included "okay" "interesting" "Excellent!" I was offered a position the following morning which I swiftly accepted.

Of course the role of admin assistant is quite in keeping with all my previous experience. In and of itself its a role I excel at. Its not necessarily what I initially had planned for myself. I have always rallied myself against working in an office. I don't know why.. perhaps the idea of being stuck in a cubicle all day.. but I won't be. Ill be in my home. That I love. And so for that (and the reasons that I mentioned above) this position is all the more exciting. But it gets better. The company is called Virta Health. They are combining the implementation of new technologies with nutrition (in the direction of low carb) to combat type 2 diabetes (Which is an auto immune issue). Indeed the only way I can eat is low carb. So I have gotten my foot in the door with a company that is directly in keeping with my direct life experience and learning.

Pretty gosh darn cool (Takes a moment to gaze out the window and appreciate the expanse

of white) if I do say so myself.

There she goes

For the last 20+ years my identity and sense of self has revolved around my being a mom. I have taken pride in my role and I know I have...
